A review of the invertebrates associated with lowland calcareous grassland (ENRR512)

This report brings together information on the species composition of the invertebrate fauna of lowland calcareous grassland and aims to help field workers and site managers to obtain a broader understanding of the extent and importance of the fauna. It discusses a variety of sampling techniques and suggests a species recording programme. The report also considers relationships between the fauna and the different NVC communities, and outlines various approaches to the use of the species tables in site assessment for nature conservation. An important conclusion is the need to assess site quality using as many taxonomic groupings as possible in order to cover all habitat requirement variables.
