As a result of work within the Habitat Restoration Project, standard protocols to translate Phase 1 field maps and target notes into digital format for use within GIS were defined. These 1999 protocols were to be used throughout English Nature and applied more widely. The GIS data set was also be used as a basis for translation into other formats for example Biodiversity Action Plan habitat types.
