Population diversity and speciation in Hydnellum and Phellodon species (ENRR557)

The stipitate hydnoid fungi are a group of ectomycorrhizal fungi associated with conifers and deciduous trees. This project was undertaken to provide baseline information as to the identity of the species of stipitate hydnoid fungi occurring in the UK, information on their genetic diversity, and possible mechanisms for the maintenance and spread of populations. The genera Hydnellum and Phellodon were selected for the study, and particular consideration was given to potential species pairs in Hydnellum.
