This report tested the validation of Natural Areas from the biogeographical perspective by examining the distribution of taxonomic groups of vascular plants (flowering plants, conifers, ferns, horsetails, club mosses), bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, hornworts) and charophytes (only shown where scarce or rare species are present). Apart from Alchemilla, Sorbus, Euphrasia and Limonium other critical taxa and apomictic groups are not covered. The aims of the work were to:
- indicate the importance of a Natural Area for a particular plant group/species;
- indicate those species of high priority within the Natural Area;
- assist staff in characterisation of Natural Area core profiles and policy decisions;
- identify areas of importance for plants in England.
