Illustrated guide to ponds and scrapes (TIN079)

Ponds of high wildlife value come in many different forms. From open water to plant choked hollows the general advice is that no one stage of a pond or scrape’s cycle is any more important than any other. However, in many farmland areas a large proportion of the traditional farm ponds are now shaded and silted and a broader range of habitats needs to be developed by managing existing pond and scrape features and creating new ones.
