The Regulations implement (in part) the 1985 European Community Directive 337 which require a formal procedure to assess the potential environmental impact of certain changes to land use before agricultural works are allowed to proceed.

This guidance is for owners, tenants and land managers who will need to consider these Regulations. It has been updated as part of Natural England’s regular review of external guidance. Part of the text has been amended to clarify some matters since the Regulations have been in force.
