European Site Conservation Objectives for Greater Wash pSPA

This record provides Natural England’s advice on the Conservation Objectives for this European Site.

This site lies within both the inshore and offshore waters of England. The advice of the Joint Nature Conservation Committee should therefore be sought separately.

These Conservation Objectives are those referred to in the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 as amended (‘the Habitats Regulations’) and article 6(3) of the Habitats Directive. They provide a framework which should inform any ‘Habitats Regulations Assessments’ (which may include an Appropriate Assessment) that a competent authority may be required to make under the legislation referred to above. In addition, they can be used to inform any measures necessary to conserve or restore the European Site and/or to prevent the deterioration or significant disturbance of its qualifying features as required under the provisions of Articles 4(1) and 4(2) of the Wild Birds Directive and Article 6(2) of the Habitats Directive respectively.

This site has been proposed as a Special Protection Area (SPA). For further details about the current consultation on this potential SPA, including the pSPA Citation, please visit
