East Dartmoor Woods and Heaths NNR: Yarner Wood NNR - Long term vegetation monitoring of Yarner Heath (RP1322)

The lowland heath within Yarner Wood NNR is the subject of a long term vegetation monitoring project. The heath is divided into plots for scientific purposes with a rotation of management including grazing, burning and cutting to provide a mosaic of different stages of growth. The data provided from the 4 yearly cycle of monitoring is used to assist management of the heath in particular in relation to bracken management.

A standard methodology is used to survey 4 plots with 5 random quadrate samples taken within each plot providing % cover of specified species plus a bracken frond count.

Monitoring was last carried out in 2011.
