FWAG SIlver Lapwing Award finalist 2012 Case Study: Alwinton Farm (AE085)

Alwinton Farm comprises 413 ha of Severely Disadvantaged tenanted land located in Harbottle in the Northumberland National Park, 1,200 ft above sea level. Stocking comprises 1,000 traditional Northumberland type Blackface ewes, 300 of which are bred pure with the remainder crossed with the Bluefaced Leicester. Graham Dixon also runs a herd of 12 registered Galloway cows which graze the hill and are an integral part of managing the upland grazing to comply with the farm’s involvement with the higher level stewardship scheme.
