Stiperstones NNR - The Stiperstones NNR Bird Survey 1995-96 (RP0691)

Surveys of heathland and upland breeding birds were carried out on The Stiperstones NNR in spring 1995 and 1996. The principal survey techniques was that of the Common Birds Census. In 1995 effort was concentrated on the southernmost half of the reserve which is the aea of highest visitor pressure. In 1996 survey work was continued on the northern half of the NNR. The area of the NNR was found to hold in excess of 5% of the estimated Shropshire populations of red grouse, whinchat and stonechat and 1% of cuckoo, tree pipit and grasshopper warbler.
