PondNet: developing a national pond surveillance network

This work was prepared and published by Freshwater Habitats Trust on behalf of Defra and Natural England. It includes reports and workshop papers on work undertaken to design and test a statistically robust ecological surveillance network that can be used as the basis for volunteer surveillance of ponds in England. The network aims to provide stock and change data for widespread and localised pond-associated species of conservation concern (including Great Crested Newt), alongside environmental data to indicate overall pond habitat quality.
