BD5103: Restoration of Purple Moor Grass and rush pasture and associated fen habitats (RP00636)

The aims of this Defra funded project BD5103 were to summarise information from the European literature and other primary and secondary data sources to identify the habitat conditions required for the existence, restoration or re-creation of fens, ‘purple moor-grass and rush pastures’ and swamp communities. .

Closing statement

The work identified enhanced site fertility and soil drainage as the two main constraints to the restoration and maintenance of high value wetlands.Gaps in knowledge and areas requiring research have been identified.
