The aim of this MSc study was to assess whether adult blue tits Parus caeruleus and pied flycatchers Ficedula hypoleuca are able to respond to the spatial and temporal variation in food availability by adjusting their foraging strategies; through observing parental provisioning behaviour and monitoring caterpillar abundance and basic breeding parameters. The study concludes that changes in food availability may contribute to explaining the effect mismatching has on the breeding performance and provisioning rates of blue tits and that parental provisioning has a positive influence on nestling condition in both species.
