Nature conservation objectives in shoreline management plans: a suggested approach (ENRR243)

Shoreline Management Plans provide a strategic framework for decisions on the management of the coastal defences for a specified length of coast. They take account of natural coastal processes together with human and environmental influences and needs. English Nature developed a methodology for setting nature conservation objectives as part of Shoreline Management Plans. This research report was published with the aim of making a positive contribution to the way nature conservation issues and objectives were considered; enhancing the way in which the natural environment is handled in the Shoreline Management Planning process and assisting in the development of best practice.
