European Site Conservation Objectives for Medway Estuary & Marshes SPA (UK9012031)

These Conservation Objectives are those referred to in the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 as amended (‘the Habitats Regulations’) and Article 6(3) of the European Habitats Directive. The accompanying Supplementary Advice provides more detailed advice and information which enables the application and achievement of the Conservation Objectives.

They provide a framework which should inform any ‘Habitats Regulations Assessments’ (which may include an Appropriate Assessment) that a competent authority may be required to make under the legislation referred to above. They can be used to inform any measures necessary to conserve or restore the European Site and/or to prevent the deterioration or significant disturbance of its qualifying features as required under the provisions of Articles 4(1) and 4(2) of the Wild Birds Directive and Article 6(2) of the Habitats Directive respectively.

Draft Supplementary Advice to support this SPA’s Conservation Objectives is available as part of the European Marine Site Conservation Advice at gov.uk

The Citation represents a formal description of the reasons why the site has been classified as a Special Protection Area (SPA). This document was part of the formal consultation with owner/occupiers and stakeholders prior to the site’s classification, and now forms part of the entry for this site in the Register of European Sites.
