National Nature Reserves - The Future: a policy statement (ST42)

NNRs are a public recognition, on behalf of Government, of a site’s importance for nature conservation, with the primary management aim being to maintain and, if
appropriate, enhance that nature conservation interest. More has, therefore, been
expected for wildlife gain from an NNR than from other important wildlife sites, where
nature conservation has to be achieved alongside the objectives of other land users..
