Woodlands and habitats that contain a variety of trees, shrubs and grassland generally support a great abundance of wildlife, including rare and declining species. They are a traditional feature of the English landscape and provide colourful displays of flowers, foliage and fruits. Some are ancient and have great historic and cultural value as well as biological and landscape importance.
