Review of Favourable Conservation Status and Birds Directive Article 2 interpretation within the European Union (NECR176)

The Birds and Habitat Directives are cornerstones of biodiversity conservation in the UK and across the European Union. At the core of both Directives lies the objective of achieving sufficient area and quality of habitats and sufficiently large populations of species that will ensure their survival into the medium to long term.

Natural England commissioned this study to better understand how the Birds and Habitats Directives are being implemented across European Union Member States, and to identify examples of good practice that could benefit our approach in England.
