The aim of this student research project was to investigate whether individual bird breeding site choice is influenced by climatic conditions, with the pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) being used to investigate this. An existing long-term data set relating to south-western UK pied flycatcher populations was analysed as part of the project. Results suggested that pied flycatchers have the ability to respond to changing climatic conditions and maintain their levels of productivity. A tentative conclusion was reached that increased fragmentation could reduce the ability of this species to respond to climate change.
