This is a baseline monitoring survey commissioned by NE to assess the positive/negative impacts of pony grazing on woodlands. In 2010 a small herd of native ponies were re-introduced to Yarner and Rudge Woods to help maintain open conditions in the understorey and shrub layer required for key migratory birds under SSSI Conservation Objectives. The survey found low numbers of deer present with moderate browsing especially on Holly and Ivy.
