Black Tor Copse NNR: Lichen Monitoring March 2010 (RP1364)

This is a project concerning the monitoring of lichen plots which had been set up in March 2003 at Black Tor Copse. Nine of the seventeen plots set up in 2003 were monitored over a period of 3 days in March 2010. The results show a dramatic decline of Bryoria bicolor, B. smithii and B. fuscescens in some sections of the wood.

The project concludes that Black Tor Copse remains the single modern locality for Bryoria smithii within the British Isles. The populations observed in 2010 appear healthy.
