A network of 128 plots spread over 56 calcicolous grassland monitoring sites was set up over a three year period (1990 – 1992). Each site report provided a base line from which to compare subsequent records from the plots. The plan proposed that the monitoring network was surveyed at five year intervals. Throughout the survey, calcicolous grasslands have been referred to as the communities in the National Vegetative Classification (NVC). Site Report Number 51.
