The ecology and land use history of the Stiperstones NNR and SSSI and its immediate surroundings are presented and discussed in this report. Using historical records, land use patterns have been determined from the Middle ages to the present day. The growth and decline of small settlement were found to be closely related to the constantly fluctuating local mining industry. Aspects of ecology and the factors affecting the distribution of selected species and future management problems are reviewed. M.C Evans 1983 Ref – Stiperstones /285
