The England Ecosystem Survey is part of the terrestrial Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment programme (NCEA), which is funded by Defra. The England Ecosystem Survey (ESS) project, part of NCEA, collects soil data for a range of measured variables.
This document aims to describe how this soil data was generated – from field sample, laboratory analysis and subsequent calculations. This document will also include links to information on data cleaning and preparation together with quality assurance process where appropriate.
The information contained in this manual is to be used as metadata for the EES Soil Sampling and Assessment Survey.
This report and associated annexes will be subject to review and revision annually. Changes to improve the quality of the laboratory results and clarity of this manual will be made.
