This publication explains why the Species Recovery Programme(SRP) was launched, the need for a fresh approach to species and habitat conservation, and some of the methods used to achieve this. It stresses the importance of partnership in the programme and contains examples of species that have benefited from joint projects using captive breeding and genetic research techniques. It also links SRP with the UK Biodiversity Action Plans, and looks forward to the future of species and habitat conservation in England. The leaflet is aimed at both conservationists and the general public, timed to coincide with ten years of species recovery.
