Ordnance Survey extracted fiorn its computer database a list of every feature in Suffolk labelled ‘pond’, together with its name, grid reference and the name of the parish in which it is situated. This list represents every mapped pond in Suffolk and is the basis of this report. Ordnance Survey has no standard definition of a pond, so some features on the limits of a ‘normal’ definition of a pond may or may not have been labelled as a pond according to the surveyor’s judgement. Ponds that have been filled in or new ponds that have been dug since the last round of survey will also be misrepresented on the list of ponds. Generally, however, the list is believed to be a good approximation of the extent of the rural pond resource but is not an exact representation.
