Bracken management and control (TIN048)

Please note: This guidance was written in 2008 and may contain information that is now out of date. Updated guidance will be published when available.

Bracken is a crucial component of many habitats and adds structure and colour to the landscape. It is a common feature of many of England’s finest areas of countryside. However, it can reduce the grazing area available for livestock, prevent effective livestock husbandry and damage wildlife habitats and underground archaeology. This note provides information on bracken management and control and strategies for vegetation recovery and aftercare.
